Overview

A 10G SFP+ (Small Form-factor Pluggable Plus) module is an enhanced transceiver designed to support 10 Gbps data rates while maintaining a compact form factor compatible with standard SFP slots . Types of 10G SFP+ Modules

  1. Fiber SFP+ Modules
    • Short-Range (SR): Uses multimode fiber (MMF) with LC duplex connectors; typical range up to 300 meters (OM3) or 400 meters (OM4) at 850 nm wavelength .
    • Long-Range (LR/ER/ZR): Uses single-mode fiber (SMF) with LC connectors; ranges from 10 km (LR) to 80 km (ER/ZR) at 1310/1550 nm wavelength .
    • 10GBASE-LRM: Supports up to 220–300 meters on standard multimode fiber with mode conditioning patch cords if required .
  2. Copper SFP+ Modules
    • Uses Direct Attach Copper (DAC) or RJ-45 connectors for short-range connections.
    • Passive DAC: Up to 7 meters; Active DAC or Active Optical Cable (AOC): Up to 15 meters .
    • 10GBASE-T modules support CAT5e/CAT6A/CAT7 cables for distances up to 30 meters .
