Fiber optic fusion patch cords use standardized colors to identify fiber types, connector types, and individual fibers, following the TIA/EIA-598 color code.

Standard Fiber Jacket Colors

Fiber optic patch cords are color-coded to indicate the type of fiber and connector:

  • Singlemode fibers: Blue jackets for UPC connectors, Green jackets for APC connectors .
  • Multimode fibers:
    • OM1/OM2: Beige or black
    • OM3: Aqua

Individual Fiber Color Coding

In high-density or ribbon cables, the same color sequence is applied to buffer tubes and individual fibers. For example, in a 48-fiber cable, the first 12 fibers use the standard 12 colors, the next 12 fibers repeat the sequence with a stripe or other marking to distinguish them . This system simplifies splicing, patching, and network management.
