Network Rack Enclosure Grounding Wire Standard

Purpose of Grounding

  • Interconnections: All crossing interconnections in the bonding grid should be welded or securely fastened to maintain a stable, low-resistance connection .

Grounding Topologies

  • Mesh Bonding Network (MBN): Provides a uniform electrical potential across the data center, traditionally used in raised-floor designs .
  • Star Isolated Bonding Network (Star-IBN): Modern data centers may use Star-IBN, where each rack connects to a single point of the bonding network, often used with 48 VDC systems .
  • Coexistence: MBN and Star-IBN can coexist in the same facility, depending on the design and equipment requirements .
