CAD cable tray styles

Configuring Cable Tray Connections

• Connect with Cable Tray: Select Use Fitting to automatically insert a fitting when connecting two tray segments, or clear it to connect directly without a fitting.
• Connect with Elbow: Select Use Tee to replace an elbow with a tee automatically, or clear it to connect directly.
• Connect with Tee: Select Use Cross to replace a tee with a cross automatically, or clear it to connect directly . These settings can be previewed in the software to visualize the type of connection before placement.

Defining Cable Tray Parameters

When modeling cable trays in AutoCAD Plant 3D:

• Use the Type Selector to choose the tray type, including options with or without additional fittings.
• Specify dimensions such as width, height, bend radius, and offsets in the Options Bar to fit the tray in the designated space.
• Adjust material properties through the Material dialog to define default materials for the tray or assign them to existing 3D routes .

Annotation and Pattern Settings

To standardize documentation:

• Under Cable Tray Pattern, select a line pattern type and spacing.
• For Labels and Flow Arrows, choose a style and layout method, specifying whether to display labels, flow arrows, or both. A preview image helps confirm your selections .

Placement and Routing

• Click in the drawing area to place the tray and use routing tools to extend it, including riser sections at different elevations.
• You can insert branches, double branches, or cutouts, and connect open ends to other trays or ducts. The software can suggest appropriate sockets or branch saddles automatically .

Catalogs and Customization

• Enhance your design by downloading tray content from the Autodesk App Store or using pre-existing catalogs.
• Use the Catalog Builder in the Spec Editor to create custom catalogs for project-specific requirements .
