Fiber Optic Cable Color Order Table

The standard fiber optic color order for the first 12 fibers follows: Blue, Orange, Green, Brown, Slate, White, Red, Black, Yellow, Violet, Rose, and Aqua.

Standard 12-Fiber Sequence

The TIA/EIA-598C standard defines the color order for identifying individual fibers within a cable. The first twelve fibers are assigned the following colors in sequence: 1: Blue, 2: Orange, 3: Green, 4: Brown, 5: Slate, 6: White, 7: Red, 8: Black, 9: Yellow, 10: Violet, 11: Rose, 12: Aqua . This sequence is used universally for patch cords, distribution cables, and splice trays to ensure consistent identification.

Cables with More Than 12 Fibers

For cables exceeding 12 fibers, the color sequence repeats in groups of 12, with additional markings such as stripes or other identifiers to distinguish each group. For example, fibers 13–16 in some high-density or European-standard cables may use Olive, Magenta, Tan, and Lime . This ensures each fiber remains uniquely identifiable even in large bundles.

Connector and Jacket Color Coding

Fiber optic connectors and cable jackets also follow color conventions to indicate fiber type:

  • Single-mode UPC: Blue connectors
  • Single-mode APC: Green connectors
  • Multimode OM1/OM2: Beige or black
  • Multimode OM3: Aqua
  • Multimode OM4: Magenta Outer jackets may also be color-coded or printed with legends to indicate fiber count and type, especially in multi-fiber or hybrid cables .
