  • Secure the Cable: Use a hose clamp to attach the sealed cable end to the base of the splice box, ensuring stability.
  • Cable Identification: Use colored nylon ties (e.g., green for outgoing fibers, blue for customer fibers) to identify cables and trim excess .
  • Seal Unused Ports: Cover any unused ports with plugs and sealing tape to prevent contamination .

Step 3: Fiber Management

  • Reserve Fiber Loops: Leave approximately 1.5 loops of fiber behind the tray to allow for future adjustments or maintenance .
  • Organize Fibers: Wrap remaining fibers neatly within the closure. Use single-core buffer tubes for individual fibers and ribbon buffer tubes for ribbon fibers. Secure fibers at tray entry points with nylon ties, maintaining color coding for identification .

  • Place Fibers in Splicer: Open the splicer's windshields, place each fiber in the V-groove with clamps facing up, and close the covers gently .
  • Perform Fusion Splice: Follow the splicer's recommended parameters to fuse the fibers, ensuring minimal optical loss and reflection .
  • Protect the Splice: Insert the fused fiber into a splice sleeve or protective tube to prevent mechanical damage .

Step 5: Final Checks and Maintenance

  • Inspect Splices: Verify splice quality using the splicer's built-in inspection or an optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR) if available .
  • Re-clean if Necessary: In dusty or humid environments, re-clean fiber ends before splicing to maintain low-loss performance .
  • Document and Label: Record splice locations, fiber counts, and cable identifiers for future maintenance and troubleshooting .
