Install optical cable support plate

Optical cable support plates should be securely mounted using appropriate hardware, ensuring proper strain relief and compliance with safety standards.

Preparation and Safety

Before installation, ensure all personnel are familiar with OSHA regulations, local safety codes, and company procedures for handling fiber optic cables . Inspect the cable and mounting hardware for damage, and keep the cable protected on the reel until installation begins . Establish clear communication between team members during cable pulling to prevent accidents . Use ladders, scaffolding, or barricades as needed to maintain a safe work area.

Mounting the Plate

  1. Select the Mounting Location: Determine whether the plate will be mounted on a pedestal, wallboard, or in-wall box. Pedestal mounting provides front and rear access, while wallboard mounting requires wood screws, and in-wall boxes offer a secure enclosure for cable terminations .
  2. Attach the Plate:
    • Pedestal: Use the provided 0.5-inch carriage bolts, washers, and nuts to secure the plate to the pedestal stake at the desired height .
    • Wallboard: Use two 0.75-inch wood screws to attach the mounting side of the plate to the wallboard .
    • In-wall or surface-mount box: Secure the box to a stud or surface using screws, then attach the plate to the box for a stable installation .
  3. Orientation: While the plate can be installed in any orientation, the typical setup attaches the “mounting side” to the support structure, providing access to upper and lower splice trays and LGX modules .

Cable Management

  • Use integrated side cleats and strain relief T's to tie down fiber cables, maintaining proper bend radius and preventing stress on the fibers .
  • Avoid excessive pulling, bending, or crushing forces, as these can damage the optical cable and affect transmission performance .
  • If using cable lubricant, ensure any spills are cleaned to prevent slips or accidents .

Final Checks

  • Verify that the plate is securely fastened and that all cables are properly routed and supported.
  • Ensure compliance with IEC/EN 61537 standards for cable support systems and any local regulations .
  • Conduct a final inspection to confirm that the installation meets both safety and operational requirements . By following these steps, the optical cable support plate will provide a stable, safe, and organized mounting solution for fiber optic cables, ensuring long-term reliability and ease of maintenance.
